Both of these tartans were designed c. 1960 by Saul Gilis  of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia  where they were produced commercially at his business Thistle Knit Wear. After his building was destroyed by fire in 1968, the Yarmouth Tartan was not available until 2011 when Michael and Frances Morris brought it back on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Yarmouth. Of the many tartans Saul Gilis designed, the Ancient Atlantic Tartan was a favorite. With its prominent colours of blue, green and brown it is reminiscent of the the sea, forest and soil of Atlantic Canada. Both tartans are registered with the Scottish Registrant of Tartans.
